First Congregational Church of Portland Announces Contest Winners
First Congregational Church of Portland just concluded their first of a series of fun contests in celebration of their 175th anniversary. The first contest was a “Guess how many” contest at the Chocolate Moose. The winners were Rowan Starkweather, Reese, Esther Moritz and Paisley Stahl. Each winner received a jar of 1,002 M&Ms, which was the correct answer for the contest.
According to retired pastor Marilyn Danielson, “The anniversary was actually in February, but it was decided to celebrate this exciting event on September 9th, what normally would be Rally Day when the Sunday school and other programs of the church begin.”
Danielson added, “We are hoping the community will celebrate with us as we move toward the big day when we have a worship service at 10 AM with members and friends dressed in 1840s costumes, followed by several different activities at Thompson Field including a tethered hot air balloon ride, a hymn sing, and old-fashioned games and goodies.”
The church’s Vacation Bible School this July has the theme of "The Greatest Show on Earth.” Danielson said, “Kids will gather for an exciting time with an old-fashioned circus theme. Other events will be coming forward through the summer. We would invite the whole community to come and celebrate this milestone with us.”
