On Saturday, May 26, 2018, the PHS Raider Softball team held the 14th Annual Suzanne J. Buche Memorial Softball tournament. This tournament began in 2005 after Buche, mother of former PHS athletes Danielle (Buche) Kingery and Bridger Buche, lost her battle with cancer.

In addition to raising cancer awareness in the community, the team’s goal was to break $100K this year. They have raised $95,000 throughout the tournament’s history. The girls collected donations from family, friends, and community members. The day of the tournament they held a 50/50 raffle, a traditional raffle, as well as a silent auction.

This year’s tournament raised $4,533.86, for the American Cancer Society/Relay For Life of Ionia County, bringing them just shy of their goal.

Donations can still be made to “Portland Softball” on the Relay For Life of Ionia County web page www.relayforlife.org/ioniami You can also make a donation to “Portland Softball” at the Relay For Life of Ionia County event, which is being held at Portland High School on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 10:00 am-11:00 pm, or by mailing a check made payable to the “American Cancer Society”, with “Portland Softball” in the memo to:
