Oakwood Receives Bowling Grant

Oakwood Elementary School recently received a $1,000.00 grant from Kids Bowl Free.

According to Wagon Wheel and Meadow Bowl Bowling Center Manager Kris Ham, Kids Bowl Free, “is a nationwide program that lets kids bowl two games for free (they pay only the cost of shoe rental). The program began back in 2008. A lot of centers only run KBF on certain days of the week - and only for certain hours of the day. We run our program 7 days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. If, for some reason, the alleys are not available, we are able to enter that into our KBF program and participants are notified that KBF is not available during that time. These are very few and far between!”

Oakwood was selected as one of the grant winners out of 19,000 schools nominated this year.

Ham said, “Every year, we nominate our three schools - Oakwood, Westwood and Portland St. Pat's. We're very excited that a Portland school was chosen!”

Parents can register their children for the Kids Bowl Free program on-line at www.KidsBowlFree.com/MeadowBowlWagonWheel. Ham explained, “Registrants have the option to purchase a Family Pass which enables members of your family to bowl for free also. I think it's up to seven or eight people. It's a great option for families that want to bowl together. At Meadow Bowl, we also offer a shoe pass for $20.00. Normal cost to rent a pair of shoes is $3.00, so you can see that if you bowl more than six or seven times, it definitely pays for itself.”

The Meadow Bowl will begin its program on June 8th, the last day of the Portland school year. Ham said, “It will run through August 31st.”

Ham added, “In 2016, Meadow Bowl received an award for being #1 in Youth Registrations in Michigan Division III. We've had great success and love having the kids out here!”
