Raider Baseball Splits with DeWitt
On Saturday, the PHS varsity baseball team hosted the Panthers of DeWitt as part of the 14th Annual Suzanne J. Buche Cancer Awareness event.
In the first game of the double header, DeWitt won 5-4, but the Raiders got the win in game two by a score of 8-4.
After the games, head coach Chris Trierweiler said, “It has been kind of a tough season for us. We lost a lot of close games so we wanted to play some quality opponents. DeWitt is coming off a very good season this year. We played the sound the first game, it was a 5-4 game, and we kind of shot ourselves in the foot a coupe of times. We let that one get away from us. In the second game we were excited about getting after them, and obviously it was a big win for us going into districts next week, beating them 8-4.”
When asked if any players had any out performances today, Trierweiler said, “Gavin Thelen hit a bomb in the second game to put us up 5-4. Cade Parmalee pitched a gem of a game in the second game. Blake Meyers, a sophomore, came in in relief and closed it out. That was a big positive showing. All in all, it was a hot day, it is tough for the catchers to keep grinding. It was a good weekend for us to split against a really good, quality baseball team. They (DeWitt) will probably be a state qualifier this year.”
The Raiders are now 13-9 on the year. For districts, the Raiders will play Belding Saturday at 12:00, and then we would play the winner of St. Johns and Alma/Ionia.
Before districts, the Raiders will host Jackson Northwest on Wednesday.
