Chloe Cross Signs with Franciscan University

St. Patrick School senior Chloe Cross recently signed her national letter of intent to play softball at Franciscan University.

Chloe says she chose Franciscan University because it offered her an authentic Catholic college that encouraged Catholic morals.

When asked about Chloe, St. Patrick head coach Jocelyn Rockey said, “Chloe is a true leader both on and off the field, and this opportunity couldn't be presented to a better candidate. Chloe works tirelessly to pay her talent forward by mentoring our younger players in a positive and constructive way. In the four years that Chloe has played for our program I have seen her grow as a player and individual. Chloe instantly became a catalyst for our team in the lineup and defensively was an outstanding catcher. Over the winter Chloe put in focus and time to develop herself as a pitcher when we were short handed. She really just throws herself into anything we ask of her and does so with enthusiasm and passion for the game. Attending a Catholic college with the opportunity to continue growth in her education, faith, and to showcase her athletic skill is a perfect fit for her. I am so proud of her and look forward to attending games and watching her grit shine on the field.”

Chloe’s dad Benjamin Cross noted her softball experience, beyond St. Patrick. He said, “Chloe has played travel softball for Lansing Hotstyx coached by Travis Walton, Backyard Dreams, Holt Hangtuf, Finesse Softball and Grand Rapids Blaze.”

Her mother Trisha said, “We are thrilled Chloe can continue the fantastic Catholic education that Portland St. Patrick’s began. She will have an opportunity to continue learning about her faith and playing softball in a wonderful collegiate environment.”

Founded in 1946, Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio) is a Catholic University with a Fall 2017 enrolment of 2,929. The Barons compete in NCAA Division III athletics and are a member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. For the 2018 season, the softball program finished their regular season with a 14-14 record.
