After the tournament, coach Jim Niebling said, “Bringing in the number 2, 4, and 5 teams in the state for the Spring Sports Carnival made for a very competitive day and great learning experience for our team. Playing against teams who play faster tennis more consistently than we do helped us to get better and better throughout the tournament. The girls are starting to see a payoff of all of their hard work at practices through some big wins. The match of the tournament goes to Rebekah Ludema who earned her 1st win at number 1 singles. Rebekah is learning to move the ball and her opponents around the court which served her well on Saturday and will continue to do so as we close out league play this week.

Afterwards Neibling said, “Today marked our first 8-0 win of the season, which is the perfect way to start out the week of the CAAC tournament. We got off to a great start on all courts, but Lansing Catholic picked up some steam during second sets and made matches tight. All around, our girls focused on their patterns and executed well. The competitiveness and toughness we saw today will serve them well for the upcoming week. The match of the day goes to 3 doubles. Novelle and Maura have been in a few tight matches and struggled to play through nerves. Today, though, they embraced the moment, closing out the first set and blanking Lansing Catholic in the second.”

The Raiders travel to Ionia on Thursday.
