The City of Portland was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources through a Recreational Archery Equipment Grant Program. The funds were used to purchase archery equipment to begin a youth archery program.

According to Recreation Coordinator Milo Root, “We recently received our equipment and will be introducing the program this July for 3rd-8th graders. Registration will be available on our website in June.”

Both Root and Parks and Recreation Director Neil Brown received USA Archery level 1 certification to teach the program.
