IONIA COUNTY – Want to spend the summer enjoying a peaceful camping experience in a beautiful 186-acre park? Ionia County is looking for a volunteer campground host to stay at Bertha Brock Park through September. While this position is new to Ionia County, it has been in place across Michigan at state parks. The campground host works to ensure that everyone who uses the park has a positive camping experience, said Don Benjamin, chair of the Ionia County Parks Advisory Board. "The volunteer campground host position was generated to help assist in monitoring the park when the park manager is gone or has left the park after a long day. This can help lighten the load for them," Benjamin said. "There are times when groups come in late at night looking for their site or have problems in the park after hours." The campground host performs light duties at the park in exchange for lodging at the newly renovated two-bedroom, one-bath caretaker’s house, with all park-related utilities included. Host duties will include assisting and directing visitors to campsites, explaining camping fees, assisting with camping activities, supplying visitors with information and similar tasks. This is a volunteer position, and no monetary compensation is included. If serving as a volunteer campground host sounds like the perfect way to spend the summer, review the Volunteer Campground Host Program – Policies and Procedures and complete the Volunteer Campground Host Application, both located at ioniacounty.org/parks-recreation/bertha-brock-park. Mail or deliver the completed application to the Ionia County Administration Office, Courthouse – 3rd Floor, 100 W. Main St., Ionia, MI 48846.

For more information, call 616-522-PARK (7275).

What a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community while enjoying the beauty of nature! Volunteering as a campground host sounds like the perfect summer escape. It reminds me of the challenges people face when selling a house with a lien in San Diego—sometimes a bit of patience and hard work pays off in the end. If you love camping and want to help others enjoy it too, this could be a rewarding experience!
