Release: State Rep. Julie Calley to seek re-election to 87th state House District

State Rep. Julie Calley filed to run for re-election to the Michigan House of Representatives.

“It has been an honor to serve our extraordinary communities,” said Calley, R-Portland. “Michigan has made progress in recent years, but there is more work to be done. I am seeking re-election to continue pursuing the issues that matter most to our community members.”

“In my first term, I was proud to support record-high road funding, fiscally responsible budgets, increased support for skilled trades training, criminal justice reforms and the repeal of driver responsibility fees. My goals for a second term will include auto insurance reform, expanded opportunities for rural broadband, supporting education and integration of behavioral and physical health.”

Calley currently holds the 87th House District seat which encompasses Barry County and part of Ionia County including the townships of Boston, Campbell, Danby, Keene, Lyons, North Plains, Odessa, Orange, Portland, Ronald, Sebewa, most of Berlin Township and the City of Portland.

Calley regularly communicates with residents of the 87th District about issues important to them. She holds office hours to gain feedback and is available through email, phone calls and additional meetings to hear from residents and respond to their concerns.

“In March, I attended over 30 district events and meetings. Connecting with the people who I serve is priority number one,” said Calley.

Before running for the state House, Calley was an Ionia County Commissioner where she served for eight years, leading the board as chairperson for three years. She also served on the Michigan Community Service Commission from 2011 to 2016 and was elected chairperson in 2015.

Calley holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Northwood University. She is a lifelong Ionia County resident and currently resides in Portland with her husband, Brian and their children Collin, Reagan, and Karagan.
