The varsity softball team finished 2 – 1 in the Hanover-Horton softball tournament on Saturday.

In the first game Portland defeated Sturgis 12 – 4. Adrianna Novara not only picked up her 7th win of the season, she also was the leading hitter going 2 for 4 with a double and triple and 3 RBI’s.

In game two, Portland dropped a heart breaker to Gladstone by the score of 5 – 4. Portland scored their four runs on 9 hits and only committed one error. Leading hitters for the game were Adrianna Novara who went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s and Taylor Trieweiler who went 2 for 4 and 1 RBI.

In the final game of the day, Sophia Novara earned her first win as a varsity pitcher giving up only one run on 7 hits 2 walks and striking out 5. The Raiders scored 7 runs on 10 hits in their 8th win of the season. Top hitter for the game was Jada Walton who went 3 for 4 with a double. Abby Grys went 2 for 2 with two triples and Natalie Linebaugh and Emma Johnson each added two hits. Taylor Trieweiler hit a monster inside the park homerun that may still be rolling.

The Raiders tournament play was highlighted by outstanding defense, committing only four errors in three games and making some very athletic and acrobatic play and an offense that featured the long ball with many hits that would have been out of the park on any field with a fence.
