Raider Softball Takes Two from Central Montcalm

April 12, 2018

The Portland varsity softball team traveled to Central Montcalm on Tuesday for their opener of the season and came home with two wins.

In game one, the Raiders defeated the Hornets 4-3. Portland fought back from a 3-0 deficit in the first inning to get their first win. Taylor Trieweiler, Adrianna Novara and Abby Grys each went two for four.

Novara picked up the win allowing only four hits and striking out 10.

In the nightcap, Portland got off to a 6-1 lead and had to hold on in the bottom of the fifth with bases loaded and Central’s best hitter at the plate to secure the win. Trieweiler, Novara and Ella Gardner each had two hits in the game to lead Portland’s offense. Novara picked up her second win of the day with a gutsy performance.

The Raiders next game is at Haslett on Thursday.  Their first home contest is this Saturday when they host the Portland Invitational starting at 10:00 AM.
