On March 29th, Portland Public Schools Superintendent William Heath sent a communication to parents stating, “The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for Ionia County worked with area law enforcement and school officials to draft a letter about school threats. It is sad to say that there have been numerous threats to schools across the State and in Ionia County. It is very important that we educate our children about the dangers and consequences of making a threat to a school. The school, Portland Police Department, and the Prosecutors Office do not take school threats lightly. Each case will be thoroughly investigated by authorities. Portland Public Schools has recently updated all of our safety plans and put in place a procedure for handling any school threat.”
