Brooks Named MIAA Softball Position Athlete of the Week

Alma College senior outfielder Mary Brooks, a Portland High School alum, has been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Position Athlete of the Week.

According to the conference website www.miaa.org, Brooks’ week included:

• Had a slashline of .500/.500/1.286 with three home runs, two doubles, four runs scored, and seven RBI in three Alma wins

• In opening game of Ohio Wesleyan doubleheader March 24, hit the game-winning home run in the top of the 7th inning

• Against Bluffton March 23, went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs in 18-9 win

The MIAA, founded in 1888, is America’s oldest college conference. Member schools include Adrian College, Albion College, Alma College, Calvin College, Hope College, Kalamazoo College, Olivet College, Saint Mary’s College and Trine University.

Brooks is batting .463 with five home runs, 30 RBIs and two stolen bases for the Scots. The team is 14-5 on the season.
