Raider Girls Downed by Williamston

The Raider girls basketball team traveled to Williamston on Friday night for their regular season finale. The Hornets beat the Raiders 49-31.

Olivia Sandborn led the Raiders with 10 points. Leslie Barker added nine, while Ava Gruber added six. Jolee Pung, Jada Walton and Hannah Gruber each added two.

Allison Peplowski led Williamston with 12 points.

Portland finishes their regular season 6-14 overall, 3-7 in conference. They begin district play next week.

In one of those stories that makes me love high school sports, Portland’s Hannah Gruber and Williamston’s Maddie Watters, who both missed most or all of their seasons with ACL tears, were able to play one last time for the year. As a senior, this was Maddie’s last game as a Hornet. Hannah is a junior and will return next year. We have shared a video of Hannah and Maddie’s last plays on our Facebook page.
