Portland Raiders Wrestling Club Fundraiser This Friday
The Portland Raiders Wrestling Club will be hosting a fundraiser event this Friday, February 23rd, from 5:00-9:00 PM at the VFW. They will be making burgers and fish sandwiches along with homemade fries, salads and desserts.
Adam Fedewa and Kevin Webert coach the program.
Fedewa said, “We currently have 63 members signed up for wrestling. We compete through the Michigan Youth Wrestling Association (MYWAY). The ages range from 5-15 years old, and includes both boys and girls. Although, this year we do not have any girls competing, we welcome and encourage females to give wrestling a chance. Girls wrestling is fast growing around the world and is an Olympic sport. MYWAY offers all girls tournaments, but many girls choose to compete against the boys, and do very well.
Fedewa went on to say, “The main goal of the program is to develop young boys and girls mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually through wrestling. The boys have been working extremely hard this season and are progressing at a high level.”
The February 23rd fundraiser is intended to help raise funds to purchase a new mat to replace the old, torn, and outdated ones. Fedewa said, “This season the club purchased brand new singlets for the wrestlers, and we hope to raise enough money to get the new mat next year.”
He added, “We have many involved parents that just do a fantastic job of organizing various aspects of the club. It truly is a family atmosphere that helps make the program a success.”
