Day of Music is Coming to Portland High School with New and Old Events
The annual Day of Music is quickly approaching. The event will take place on March 24, 2018 at Portland High School. The new band director, Mike Sulecki, says the community has a lot to look forward to this year. As in years past, the bands from middle through high school will perform. Additionally, the elementary, middle, and high school choirs will perform. “We are also going to be able to see performances from local dance companies, Portland Community Orchestra, local musicians performing solo/small group works, visual arts from both elementary schools, the middle school and the high school. We are getting a couple of outside groups and notable alum to perform as well, including an acapella group from MSU,” explained Sulecki.
This year’s event is all about Portland’s Fine Arts Program. “I am very excited. I can't wait for the opportunity to showcase what these students have been working on all year. I have some big plans for this music program, and this is the perfect occasion to get our name out there in the community,” said Sulecki
For those not performing there will be four 50/50 raffles, a craft show, and a silent auction. “There might be some surprises in the silent auction items this year that die-hard band alumni will appreciate,” said Sulecki. The event has something for everyone in the community to enjoy.
